Senior Application Process

Fall of Senior Year

  • Review your transcript with the Registrar and receive an unofficial copy.
  • Meet with the College Counselor and your parents in a "team" session if you haven't already.
  • Continue to be involved with extra-curriculars but don't load up.
  • Attend college presentations and special senior seminars.
  • Interact with visiting college representatives (maybe set up an interview on campus at MSSM)
  • Discuss your summer progress and finalize your college plans with the College Counselor.
  • Narrow your college list to a well-balanced list of final great "match" colleges (our school average is 9 colleges).
  • Make a chart or spreadsheet including deadline dates and all requirements for each school to which you are applying. See the checklist available on this site!
  • Get your applications done early and KEEP YOUR APPLICATION GUIDELINES IN MIND!!
  • File a CSS Profile if it is required by your selected colleges.
  • Attend financial aid presentations and begin the FAFSA (must be submitted by January 1st).
  • Visit your top choice colleges if possible (schedule interviews and tours well in advance).
  • Ask for recommendations early using the Teacher Recommendation Form and remember to send Thank-You Notes!!
  • Take final SAT/SAT II/ACT tests (best to have these completed all testing before winter break).
  • Remember the College Counselor is eager to help, so take advantage of being able to have as many meetings as you'd like.
  • Keep your parents up-to date on your applications progress.
