Bio
Mr. Pierre-Yves Gervez is a native of Brittany, on the western coast of France. As the son of a military doctor, he moved around extensively throughout his childhood, living in different regions of France as well as spending five years in Africa in the countries of Djibouti and Cameroon. He earned his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Institut National des Sciences Appliqués (INSA) in Rennes, France. While a student, he spent a semester conducting an internship in Chemnitz in the former East Germany. Upon graduating from INSA, he worked as a maintenance engineer for Applied Materials, Inc. where he maintained and serviced semi-conductor manufacturing equipment. He moved to Maine in 2004 and has taught physics, physical science, and math at both Fort Kent Community High School and the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
Mr. Gervez’s scholarly interests include robotics and alternative energy sources. In his free time he enjoys cycling, cross-country skiing, fishing, and (much to his wife’s disapproval!) hang gliding. He competes on occasions in bike and ski races in Maine and Quebec. He lives in Fort Kent with his wife Kate and 1-year old son Nathaniel.
