Mr. Pedersen, MSSM mathematics instructor with 30 years of experience, loves teaching, disc golf, ultimate Frisbee, hiking, nature, and mountain climbing. Indoors, he is an avid cook, card player, cribbage pro, board game enthusiast, and lover of oldies music. In his spare time, he is a consultant for the College Board as an AP Calculus mentor and a writer for Board examinations. In addition to all of this, he writes mathematics competitions for state, regional and national groups. He enjoys working with students on how to study, take tests, prepare for standardized tests, and be better students. Mr. Pedersen, a highly notable instructor, has been the recipient of several teaching awards during his extensive teaching career. These include the 1993 Presidential Award in Secondary Mathematics, 1994 Henneke National Math Team Coach of the Year, 1996 Island Institute Community Service Award, 1996 NASA Educator Award, 1997 AP Instructor Award for AP Calculus, 1999 Milken Education Award, 1999 NASA "Right Stuff" Award, 1999 Maine Teacher of the Year Award, and the 2002 National Secondary Math Teacher of the year.
