  • Education

Ben Reed graduated from Bates College in 2008 with a B.A. in mathematics. In math at Bates, Ben tutored one-on-one and in Bates's math workshop, interned at the Hughes Scholar summer program, and researched prions and the use of blogs in a math classroom with Professor Meridith Greer. Ben's work with Dr. Greer has been published in Primus, a journal that many college professors use to attain new ideas for their classrooms. Ben also taught math at Upward Bound in the summer of 2006. Ben enjoys abstract math like graph theory, set theory, and anything else abstract, and keyboards tremble when he mathematically programs.

Abstract algebra applies to at least one of Ben's passions—contra dancing, the highly-structured folk form full of geometric transformations—but he leaves the math at the door when he steps on the dance floor. Ben also throws a pin-point forehand in Ultimate Frisbee and holds the court down in double's tennis. Best, though, Ben is known as a tender, thoughtful man, and empowering tutor and mentor.
