Mathematics

The MSSM Mathematics faculty provides a strong foundation in the traditional high school mathematics curriculum. It is our goal that every student completes a Calculus course prior to graduation. For those students who are able to advance quickly through our program, we promise to provide college level courses for them in every semester while enrolled at MSSM.

This faculty is also interested in providing outreach courses to teachers and students within Maine. We have opportunities for off-campus students to join our classes. Students have participated in all levels of our course offerings.

At MSSM, many of of our students love to hone their skills by competing on its Math Team. In the last five years, MSSM has won First in the Maine Association of Math Leagues (MAML) four out of five times. In addition, we have been the Maine State Math Meet Champions four of the last five competitions. Often a majority of the team wins an individual trophy. In addition, MSSM sends 36 students to participate in the American Regions Mathematics competition at Penn State University. Mathematics Instructor and Department Chair, Pete Pedersen has coached this team for 22 years.
