Employment Opportunities at MSSM

The Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM) has the following staff openings:

Computer Science Instructor

The successful candidate will have 3-5 years experience teaching computer science in either the public or private school sector and will hold a minimum of a Master's degree in computer science, education or a related field. The candidate will be expected to teach four computer science classes. All MSSM faculty are expected to be actively involved in residential life. Academic advising, student activity advising, and dormitory duty are a regular part of faculty responsibilities.

Physics Teacher

The successful candidate will have 3-5 years experience teaching physics in either the public or private school sector and will hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in physics, education or a related field. The candidate will be expected to teach three levels of physics: honors, Physics B, and AP Physics C. The ability to integrate technology into the classroom is a must as is the willingness to work with other departments to coordinate skills and meet objectives. All MSSM faculty are expected to be actively involved in residential life. Academic advising, student activity advising, and dormitory duty are a regular part of faculty responsibilities.

Residential Interns

We are seeking three residential interns; one each in admissions, student activities, and fitness. Residential interns are teaching/administrative interns and dorm parents. All interns live in the residential hall in studio apartments. In the fall semester interns work with master teachers/administrators observing and taking on small projects. In the spring teaching interns offer elective classes and administrative interns take on solo projects.

Successful candidates will have 4 year college degrees and experience mentoring and supervising young adults.

Administrative Assistant I/II

Full time administrative assistant beginning July 1, 2010. This is a 12 month position. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communications skills, knowledge of Microsoft office, general office equipment, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multitask. Occasional weekend work, may be required. Job duties include answering phones, greeting visitors, and other general office duties. In addition, this assistant will work with the operations director by handling supply orders, and clerical work for the operations director. Minimum two years experience in a related field.

IT Assistant

Part time information technology assistant (20 hours per week) beginning July 1, 2010. This is a 12 month position. Knowledge of Microsoft, Apple and Linux software and good organizational skills are required. Basic network knowledge is a plus.

LPN

Part time assistant school nurse beginning August 20, 2010. This is a school year position. The assistant school nurse does not work when the students are not on campus. An LPN degree is required. The successful candidate will work 20 hours per week with the RN is preparing maintaining student health records, assessing students and transporting students to medical appointments. Study Hours Supervisor

Part time study hours supervisor (15 hours per week @ $10/hour). MSSM students are required to attend 2 hours of study each evening Sunday through Thursday. The Study Hours Supervisor oversees the Learning Center academic tutors, maintains a studious atmosphere in the center and works with students as needed. The hours are 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday evenings when students are on campus. This job begins August 23, 2010 and ends May 25, 2011.
