Beyond the Usual Clubs
At MSSM, clubs are not just lines on a college application, but more about passion and creativity. Since our clubs are student-generated, they evolve each year based on student interest. Some, such as Key Club, Girl Up, and Green Day, connect to national organizations and give opportunities for leadership and community service. Others, like SeaPerch and VEX Robotics, do not fit the traditional club model but contain hands-on engineering experiences and fast paced competitions.
Then, there are the truly unique clubs. The ones that only exist because a student had an idea and the drive to make it happen. Over the years, we’ve had clubs like Frankenstein’s Workshop, where students deconstructed and reassembled stuffed animals into new creations, and Cape Club, where members sewed their own capes and then wore them proudly around campus. We also have less terrifying clubs such as rocketry, machine learning, Dungeons & Dragons, astronomy, and many more.
Then there’s Lettuce Club. An MSSM tradition so legendary it made BuzzFeed and became a worldwide trend. Go ahead and do a quick Google search of “MSSM Lettuce Club BuzzFeed” which will explain why it’s a world-famous competition of speed, endurance, and a lot of Romaine Lettuce. We are just happy the original idea wasn't Birthday Cake Club.
Students can explore artistic expression, or just have fun with friends. Either way, clubs at MSSM offer a break from academics while building connections with like-minded peers. If you don’t see a club that fits, start your own!
