Finding Balance

Finding Balance

Life at MSSM is full of discovery, challenge, and community. Between classes, clubs, athletics, and dorm life, our students lead busy days that are as rewarding as they are full. To maintain this balance, we incorporate regular breaks into the school year, allowing students to step away from campus, recharge, and reconnect with family and friends.

Each month, students go home for either a long weekend (Friday through Tuesday) or a whole week. These breaks are more than time off; they are intentional pauses that help students catch their breath. Whether it’s a chance to sleep in, enjoy a favorite home-cooked meal, or spend time in their hometown community, these moments of rest are a vital part of the MSSM experience.

In addition to monthly long weekends, our calendar also includes:

Thanksgiving Week

Three weeks around the New Year

A whole week in both February and April

These breaks ensure students return refreshed, ready to dive back into the challenging academics and lively community life that define MSSM. Parents often tell us they cherish this rhythm too—it keeps their students connected to home while giving them space to grow at school. The photo shows Mr. Berz (Math Teacher) and Mr. Constantine (Executive Director) giving the heart gesture as the students depart on school buses, which stop along the I-95 corridor.

At MSSM, balance is just as important as rigor. Long weekends and extended breaks are one of the ways we help our Penguins soar.
