J-Term 2025 Pt 1.

J-Term 2025 Pt 1.

MSSM’s 2025 January Term (J-Term) is off to an exciting start, showcasing the diverse and immersive learning opportunities that set our boarding school apart. Students are diving into hands-on, interdisciplinary experiences led by passionate teachers. Classes include Astronomy Adventures, Old Map-a-Palooza, Can You See the Invisible, and Supercalifragilistic Projects. From exploring microbiomes in Microbes to crafting in Makerspace Projects and forging metal in Blacksmithing, our J-Term embodies the experiential learning focus of one of the best STEM high schools in the U.S. Creative pursuits like Music Production and cultural studies in Day of the Dead add depth to the curriculum. J-Term gives students a chance to really explore an area of interest for two weeks. We have a few students doing internships including VALT Enterprises, an aerospace company in Presque Isle.

Small class sizes allow personalized instruction. Two classes allow students to pursue their own interests as independent studies. Some of the independent topics in Mr. Desneiges Supercalifragilistic Projects include: video editing and motion graphics, make and repairing clothing, building bird houses, writing a story, creating a video game, controlling external systems by thought, film production, app development, and more.

Last week was only the first week of J-Term and things are moving along at a nice pace. Everything speeds up this week as it is the final week. There will be a presentation for students off campus and a review of what each class did a few weeks after J-Term.
