MSSM Esports to Playoffs!

We’re thrilled to announce that MSSM’s Mario Kart 8 and Rocket League teams are heading to the playoffs! Starting the week of November 18, our teams will compete virtually in the Maine Principals' Association Varsity Esports Playoffs. After a brief pause for Thanksgiving week, the competition will resume with more playoffs and finals taking place in December. The finals are expected to be held in person and streamed live on WHOU, although streaming may require a subscription.

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe team, the Penguin Turbo Charges with a match record of 5W-3L and game record of 10W-7L, enters the playoffs with confidence. Despite a recent loss, they’ve beaten every other team in the playoffs at least once, positioning them as strong contenders. At the very least, they’re poised for a high placement at finals. Mario Kart 8 is a fast-paced racing game where players navigate imaginative tracks, using power-ups and strategic timing to outmaneuver opponents.

Our Rocket League team, the Penguin Pioneers with a match record of 5W-3L and game record of 15W-10L, also stands ready to showcase their skills. Rocket League combines the thrill of soccer with rocket-powered cars, demanding precision, teamwork, and dazzling aerial maneuvers. Each match promises high-energy excitement and nail-biting competition.
