Off to a Good Start

Off to a Good Start

Today, MSSM welcomed a new group of students as check-in began for the new year. Families from across Maine and New England arrived on campus to start a new adventure in their lives.

Parents shared why they chose MSSM for their children. One parent noted, “We already had a student here, but with our younger son he was always bored in math the way he was taught before. What we love about MSSM is they teach to the ability, not the grade. We knew it was the perfect fit, because he has never been challenged in math before.”

Students brought their own energy, too. Some spoke about looking forward to diving into challenging classes, while others were eager to join clubs, sports, and residential life. Many shared how excited they were to meet new friends and settle into their dorm rooms. One new student said, "I am most excited about the accelerated math classes, computer science, and chemistry classes. But also meeting like-minded people from all across Maine who all like math and science and really just all academics."

Staff, faculty, and returning students played a key role in welcoming everyone. Staff (and younger siblings) helped carry bags, faculty greeted families, and Residential Assistants (seniors) made sure new arrivals felt at home.

This week will continue with orientation sessions, community-building activities, and the start of life on campus. For many, today marked the first step in a journey filled with learning, growth, and connection. Returning students will check in Friday and Saturday with school starting on Monday.
