Penguins Compete at Regionals
On October 26, 2024, MSSM's Cross Country runners competed at the Northern Maine Class C Regional Championships, held at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast. The course, hosted by Belfast Area High School, is known for its fan-friendly layout and challenging elements. Athletes began with a fast, straight sprint across the football field before tackling a gradual uphill after the first mile. The course winds through meadows and forests, challenging runners with short, steep hills in the wooded section before a slight downhill leads them to the finish. Spectators had excellent views of the runners, seeing them multiple times from the start/finish area. Freshman Ethan Young from Naples said, “it was a really fun course. I thought is seemed short, but overall it was awesome and everyone got a Personal Record (PR).”
MSSM’s Ethan Y. led the team with an impressive time of 19:50.71. Ben U. followed with a time of 20:21.17, while Rafi H., Roa K., and Michael D. rounded out the team with times of 23:14.63, 24:52.31, and 25:32.62, respectively. This 5,000-meter course tested their endurance and agility as they navigated the varied terrain. The athletes showed perseverance and represented MSSM with pride, preparing them well for future races in Maine’s competitive cross-country circuit.
