STEM in French

Students in French 311, an upper-level STEM-focused class, are in the midst of a three-week workshop on cellular biology. This week, they are demonstrating their language proficiency by explaining in French what cellular biology is, naming the various components of a cell, and describing the function of each organelle. Soon, they will conduct a microscope-based hands-on lab with an accompanying observation log and will begin learning about cell division. MSSM French students are at the center of their learning as they apply real-world skills to language acquisition in the target language. The course blends science and language, reinforcing subject knowledge while expanding vocabulary in meaningful contexts. By presenting complex scientific concepts in French, students practice both accuracy and fluency. This cross-disciplinary approach helps them see how language can be used beyond traditional settings, preparing them for future study and global opportunities.
