The MSSM Penguins started their season on the right foot, sweeping the evening's contests against the Washburn Beavers. In the opening contest, first-year student David Shaw scored the game's only goal during a box scramble, securing a 1-0 win for the Penguins. Junior goalkeeper Connor Start protected the net, earning his first clean sheet of the season. In the evening's girls' match, Aubrey Ainsworth and Mia Shaw scored the goals that led the Penguins to a competitive 2-1 victory. Shaw scored the game's opening goal, assisted by Ainsworth, before the Beavers responded 10 minutes later. Ainsworth netted the game-winning goal with 27 minutes left before the Penguins fended off a strong Beavers' attack. The boys will return to action on Saturday, September 2, against the Penquis Valley Patriots of Milo at 1 p.m. in Limestone. The girls' next match will be Wednesday, September 6, against the Southern Aroostook Warriors at 6 p.m. in Limestone.
