Summer Camp 2020
Dear MSSM Summer Camp Community,
We hope everyone in your family is doing well. This is usually the time that we are getting ready for another great summer up here in Limestone and messages like this would be reminding you to get the final paperwork in. However, it is with great sadness that we must cancel the MSSM STEM Summer Camp for the 2020 season. We do this only after evaluating the feasibility of providing a safe environment for our little penguin campers, the staff, and the surrounding community.
This decision did not come easily and we have waited as long as we could to make the decision, but it is the safe and responsible choice. We know this is devastating to not only our campers who were planning to meet new like-minded friends and connect with old ones, but also to our staff that went through a rigorous process to be mentors and counselors. We know this is equally difficult for the parents as well. As camp director, I wait 11 months for a one-month camp season, getting more and more excited as each day passes.
All campers currently enrolled will have a guaranteed spot for the 2021 camp season. We will offer a number of options for money already paid:
- Full refund (starting next week)
- Refund minus deposit (held over for next year)
- All money held over for next year
- Money turned into a charitable donation to MSSM
We are currently planning a free one-week virtual camp. It won’t have the same camp culture as being here, but it will be a chance to keep your child engaged in learning and to discover some new STEM topics while working on fun projects. We will have more information on that next week as we are still in the planning stages. We will send a link to an online form asking what types of classes your child might be interested in.
We are already looking forward to summer of 2021 and can’t wait for us all to be together again. Mr. Berz is ready to yell, “VOLCANO!”, the waterslide will be longer than ever, and we’ll make sure the campfire is ready for making S’mores.
We at MSSM are here for you during these strange times. We appreciate you and your child being a part of our community.
